JAMIS Software Corporation, a leading provider of project accounting and labor management software solutions for government contractors, is working to make the holidays happier for Arlington families by partnering with the Professional Services Council (PSC) to collect food for the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) during PSC’s annual membership meeting on December 17.
JAMIS is encouraging donations by giving all who donate a chance to win a Kindle Fire HD tablet. Last year PSC collected 75 pounds of food and hopes to surpass that amount this year. In addition to donating food items, meeting attendees will be able to make financial donations via cash, check or credit card this year.
In its 25th year, AFAC is a community-based non-profit providing supplemental groceries to Arlington neighbors in need, serving an average of 1,500 families each week, including approximately 3,500 adults and 1,500 children. AFAC receives 65 percent of the food it distributes—including essential nutrition items such as eggs, milk, fresh produce, bread and oatmeal—from direct donations.
The high cost of living in this region often means that many families find it difficult to make ends meet. AFAC reports that approximately 14,900 residents of Arlington County are considered to be food insecure. AFAC sees an acute need for donations during this time of year, because the number of families seeking assistance typically grows between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.
“JAMIS appreciates the work AFAC does, not just during the holiday season, but all year long as well,” said Jeff Noolas, President and CEO of JAMIS Software. “All of us at JAMIS want to raise awareness and do what we can to help our community to fight hunger.”
“AFAC is a vital resource for Arlington families throughout the year and we are happy to support their mission to help our neighbors in need,” said PSC President and CEO Stan Soloway.
AFAC is located at 2708 South Nelson Street in Arlington, VA. For more information about how to organize a food drive or donate, please visit http://www.afac.org.
