Business Development Tools and Resources for Government Contractors

Business Development Tools and Resources for Government Contractors

“Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.” – Pablo Picasso

In many cases, the success you achieve can be in direct proportion to the level of effort you put in. However, effort without a proven strategy and tools to measure performance may lead to just average results. Winning a federal contract can be complicated, and there are many rules and regulations involved. Fortunately, there are numerous established industry resources to work with, as well as several tools you can utilize to implement a successful business development strategy. Take a look at the following resources and tools available in the industry:

RESOURCES

There are several resources and associations available to government contractors to aid growth, knowledge, and advancement.

  • Association of Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (www.aptac-us.org): Ninety-eight Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTACs) – with over 300 local offices – form a nationwide network of dedicated procurement professionals working to help local businesses compete successfully in the government marketplace.
  • S. Small Business Administration – Office of Government Contracting (www.sba.gov/about-sba/sba-locations/headquarters-offices/office-government-contracting): The Small Business Administration’s Office of Government Contracting & Business Development works with federal agencies to award at least 23 percent of all prime government contract dollars to small businesses.
  • S. General Services Administration (GSA) (www.gsa.gov/small-business/small-business-resources): Resources to help you learn more about doing business with GSA, government contracting opportunities, and marketing your contract.
  • National Veteran Small Business Coalition (www.nvsbc.org): Ensure that Veteran businesses are given first consideration for federal prime and subcontracting procurement opportunities.
  • The Pulse of GovCon (www.thepulsegovcon.com): The Pulse is a technological research & advisory firm that empowers Government Contractors through its BD 360° Federal Solution.
  • Govmates (www.govmates.com): Facilitates teaming introductions for any government contractor seeking partners based upon capabilities, past performance, set-asides, or other contract-specific needs.

TOOLS

These tools provide essential support for government contractors in identifying and analyzing potential contract opportunities to maximize business growth.

  • Sam.gov (www.sam.gov): The System for Award Management (SAM) is an official website of the U.S. government. There is no cost to use SAM.
  • GSA Schedules (www.gsa.org): Acquisitions through GSA Schedules are issued using full and open competition. Prices have already been deemed fair and reasonable, and Contracts are in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, reducing evaluation cycles.
  • USASpending.gov (www.usaspending.gov): USASpending.gov is the official source for spending data for the U.S. Government.
  • GovSpend (www.govspend.com): GovSpend delivers intelligence on what federal, state, and local agencies are purchasing, who they are buying from, and the precise amounts they are paying.
  • Rogue (www.userogue.com): Rogue applies the power of generative AI and automation to GOVCON, starting with accelerating the bid and proposal process with an AI-power proposal writer.
  • Bidscale (www.bidscale.com): Bidscale provides a secure AI-powered software platform to manage the full federal contracting lifecycle, from requirements to award and beyond.
  • FederalCompass (www.federalcompass.com): From pipeline to strategic intelligence, Federal Compass provides a complete market intelligence solution for government contractors.
  • Bloomberg Government (BGOV) (www.bgov.com): Delivers the information, tools, and analytics your team needs to maximize opportunities and grow your business.
  • GovWin (formerly Input, Centurion, FedSources, and now most recently Onvia) (www.govwin.com): Helps government contractors win more business by providing a centralized and detailed platform for insight into opportunities at all stages of the contracting lifecycle.
  • EZGovOpps (www.ezgovopps.com): An affordable market intelligence tool for finding and procuring federal government contracts.
